Baltika (Балтика) in St. Petersburg,Russia, brews nine different styles. (They also brew a non-alcoholic beer, which they label as No. 0. Clever, that.) Vinodel donated three of them to me. While it’s not exactly “porter” weather,I thought I’d take a break from the lighter ales and try out Number 6: The Porter. Here’s what they say about it: This traditional dark beer is brewed according to ancient English recipes. Baltika’s Porter is one of the most eminent varieties of Russian beer with a long heritage. Their website even offers the calorie count, ingredients, recommend…

Baltika Beer Reviews

Review of Baltika Beer, Russia T he most successful domestic brewery in Russia today is Baltika . While capital flight plagues the rest of the country this company is actually expanding production and attracting foreign investors. Unlike other dominant breweries that use their economic strength to strangle competition, Baltika competes squarely on merit. The half-liter brown bottles are all freshness dated and typically cost less than 13 Rubles ($0.50 USD). A solid lineup of flavorful lagers offer something for everyone and quality doesn't take a backseat to profits.…

It tastes like Russia cloned Budweiser but miscalcluated and added too much chemical waste. This beer is not good. It has a cheap ingredient taste and the aftertaste is sweet-in-a-bad way. Interesting bottle, though. Natalie says: It smells really strong, like concentrated MGD …

Baltika beer Russian

I have mentioned in previous posts that Russia has changed me in ways that I will likely feel for the rest of my life. There is one thing I never said, mostly because it didn’t quite fit in with the tone of previous posts: Russia turned me into a beer drinker. Irrevocably. Although Russia is known for vodka, I’ve heard it said that St. Petersburg is the beer capital of the country, and we honored this title with a visit to the Baltika Brewery. Above on the left is my favorite of the Baltika beers, #4. On the right, the favorite of my roommate, #8. Interestingly, the …

Russian Beer Baltika 9

Baltika makes several different beers, and I’ll try to go through them, but it’s only fitting to do #9 first/again. Maybe this post will stay up,or maybe my partner will rewrite his original post and take this one down,or maybe we’ll just have 2 reviews,I don’t really know. What I do know is that Baltika #9 is one hell of a beer. As the label says, its a lager and contains 8.0% abv. Would I have preferred it to be 9.0% for B9,of course. However lack of symmetry in the name and alcohol content certainly doesn’t make this Russian beer taste any worse. This beer from St. P…
